UW Help with Funding

Hunting for funding can be a perplexing, but two funding services on campus can make your grant search more efficient and effective, especially if you talk to them first. They can point out the resources that will be the most helpful to you, pass along tips and strategies for searching more effectively, alert you to information that is not on the Web, and generally help to set you on the right path through the funding thickets.

The Research Funding Service (RFS)
The RFS is a grants information resource for faculty, fellows, and staff for the School of Medicine, Public Health, Social Work, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing. We provide grantsmanship information through a comprehensive web site, one-on-one consultations, workshops, classes, Grant$ for Lunch programs, publications and other public outreach activities. RFS is co-sponsored by the Office of Faculty Development, University of Washington School of Medicine and the Health Sciences Libraries and Information Center.

The Grants and Funding Information Service (GFIS)
The GFIS provides help identifying resources for external funding for graduate students (masters and doctoral level) who have been admitted to or who are attending the University of Washington. GFIS offers workshops and individual consultations explaining print and online resources available for students to search. GFIS does not provide search services for students, but rather provides guidance in learning searching skills and direction as to which materials might offer a better chance of finding a useful funding source.

Program Announcements
The Office of Sponsored Programs website lists program announcements and links to major federal sponsors of research at the UW. This site also includes a link to the Community of Science funding opportunities search feature.

Limited Submission Opportunities
The Office of Research lists Limited Submission Opportunities Programs, which are grants, awards and fellowships that limit the number of applications that can come from one institution. The listings include details about such programs available to faculty at the University of Washington and are posted as as they are identified.
