The Grant and Contract Initiative

Current Scope for the GCI

SAGE Database

The SAGE Database is a combined effort between the Grant & Contract Initiative, Grant and Contract Services and the Office of Research. This inclusive database holds all data fields which support the new web applications that GCI is building and will replace the database currently used by GCS. Some of these data fields are shared by different systems, so they are included only once in the database, and are represented by overlapping circles in the diagram below.

The new Grant & Contract Database will contain the following types of data:

  • Proposal Development (pre-award)
  • Award Management (post-award)
  • Business & Approval Rules
  • GCS Operational Data
  • Human Subjects Division Data

Each of the systems depicted in the diagram have separate web applications. For example, authorized campus members may access the Proposal Development, Routing and Approval System (electronic GC1 and eventually the NIH module), but not the GCS Operational System. Only GCS administrators and staff will have access to that system.

Future Web Tools:

  • The Human Subjects Division will be moving their data into the SAGE system and creating a new Operational System for their office. Development is scheduled to begin in Fall, 2002.
  • A Status and Ongoing Managment Reporting tool will be created to allow authorized campus members to run reports on the GCS Operational System. This information is always changing, reflecting the day-to-day work of the GCS office.
  • A Reporting Application will be created outside of the SAGE database, in a data warehouse, so that authorized campus members and central office administrators can run reports on permanent, historical data. GCI will be using the datawarehouse efforts of C&C to build this. No requirements have been collected and no timeline has been set for this application.
