Automating the UW Grant Proposal Process
System Prototype

The Grant and Contract Initiative (GCI) is developing a web-based system for electronic proposal development, routing and approval, for use by campus faculty, administrators and staff. The final system will have the following hallmarks:

• Web-based system available from any computer with Internet access.
• Choose a sponsor and enter data once.
• Circulate proposal electronically for routing and approval.
• Print completed sponsor forms.
• Electronic submission to sponsors.
• Ability to generate reports.

The following prototype was demonstrated to several campus audiences in Spring of 2001. It was designed using Ariba e-forms and was well-received by the more than 360 members of the UW research community who attended one of the demos.

This prototype combines the questions from the NIH 398 and UW GC-1 forms into a single e-form that will support standard R01-type grants.
