About UW NetIDs

Your UW NetID (with password) is your personal identification for using UW online resources. A UW NetID is required of everyone associated with the University of Washington who plans on using online central administrative programs and computing services.

With your UW NetID, you are eligible for various computing services depending on your association with the UW (i.e, student, faculty, staff, alumni, retirees, or other affiliate). Your computing services may include Web interfaces used to:

Your UW NetID remains the same throughout your life, no matter what associations you have with the University of Washington.

Why is a UW NetID necessary?

Your UW NetID verifies who you are when you use the many UW network services. Such verification ensures the privacy of your personal information and restricts the use of resources to those for whom they are intended. To make access to such services more secure and consistent, the UW is consolidating the identifications you need to just one: the UW NetID.

Is it possible to have more than one UW NetID?

You have just one personal UW NetID, no matter how many different associations you have with the UW (e.g., student plus staff plus alumnus/a). Your UW NetID remains the same throughout your life. Your personal UW NetID is for your use only.

You may also have the use of a shared UW NetID via that account's UW NetID. This should not be confused with your personal UW NetID.

Can I change my UW NetID?

Your personal UW NetID is your permanent identification and may not be changed except in certain specific situations.
