Help our networks!

Help our networks! Please reduce non-academic use of the Internet by limiting downloads and file sharing to only what is related to your studies, particularly during evening study hours.

With UW Housing filled to capacity and residents settling in to do their course work, the load on the UW Housing networks gets heavy during evening study hours. The heavier the load, the greater the likelihood of delays and slow response times for all residents.

Internet access for UW Housing is a shared and limited resource. Please be considerate of other students in your use of the networks during peak evening hours. You can help alleviate the strain by taking the following steps:

Please also note that apparent slow response times may be the result of network limits on some kinds of traffic, including traffic of most common peer-to-peer applications. (See Rules for Computing and Networking in UW Housing). Traffic within the campus network, however, should not be impacted by any rate limiting.

Housing and Food Services (HFS) is always interested in feedback on how UW Housing life can be improved and how to prioritize scarce resources. HFS may be contacted at hfsinfo@u.washington.edu.
