Ethical and Proper Use
of Computer Accounts at the UW

A Tutorial

More than fifty thousand members of the UW community use and rely on campus computer resources for their daily work and study. This shared system can continue to succeed only if each user knows and follows responsible-use guidelines. This tutorial will help you understand how those guidelines relate to you. If you have not already done so, please read the policies, laws, and guidelines for the use of UW computing and networking (Knowing the Rules).

Whenever you use campus computers or network resources, you are agreeing to comply with university policies and guidelines for computer use. If you violate any of the UW Technology computer and network use policies you are subject to loss of access to computing resources as well as to university disciplinary and/or legal action.
