Braille Embossing Service at the ATL

The ATL provides a Braille embossing service for UW faculty, staff, and students. Braille can be provided in a variety of formats and languages, and tactile graphics are available.

We strongly recommend submitting files in MS Word .doc format. Read the useful information at the Techno-Vision Systems web site about 10 Tips for using Word to produce Braille. See our Frequently Asked Questions about Braille Embossing page for more information about preparing files for embossing.

Allow at least two full working days to complete Braille requests. Very long documents or files requiring tactile graphics or extensive markup may take additional time.

Please submit a separate request for each document you wish to have embossed.

Cut and paste the following information into your email program, complete the form, and send to braille@u.washington.edu along with your attached file for embossing.

Please use the file name in the subject line of your request! This will make it easier for us to track the progress of your job. Make sure the file name is unique and descriptive. For academic texts, include course and chapter. For courses with multiple texts, indicate text title or author as well. Partial chapters should indicate page range. Examples: "Eng157-ch3.doc", "SPAN105-Basics-ch5pg114-119.doc", and "DSS-accom-letter-RK.doc" are all good file names; "chapter3.doc" or "letter.doc" are not.

Generally Braille requests are created in the order received, with an eye to the date requested. Note that campus mail delivery adds to the time before you have the materials in hand; plan on an extra day or two for campus mail delivery, or make arrangements to pick up the materials in person.
