Carpooling to the UW

Faculty & Staff Carpools

Carpool Parking Permit

For additional help, email Commuter Services or call 206-221-3701.

Carpool Permits cost $20.40 per month ($10.20/person per month in a two-person carpool) and are valid seven days a week in a lot convenient to both work locations. To sign-up for a Carpool Permit all carpool members must go to Commuter Services together to present their U-PASSes and sign receipts. At least one carpool member must be a UW Seattle employee or affiliate U-PASS holder or UW Seattle FlexPass holder; the other member of the carpool may be a student U-PASS holder.

Rules

  • Purchase a U-PASS at UW Seattle Commuter Services .
Note: Harborview has a fiscally separtate U-PASS program with similar, but not identical benefits to the UW Seattle U-PASS program. If you are a Harborview employee, you are not eligible to participate in a UW Seattle carpool. To purchase a U-PASS as a Harborview employee and for information on Harborview's carpool options, please contact Harborview Commuter Services at 206-744-3254 or hmcpark@u.washington.edu
  • All carpool participants must all work at the same location (for example, all at the UW Seattle campus, or all at SLU Facilities).
  • Carpool participants must commute inbound together at least three days a week.
  • All carpoolers must live more than one mile from campus and follow a logical commute path. The carpool cannot drive past the campus to pick up its members.
  • A student may be a member of the carpool, but only the faculty or staff person may be designated the driver of this type of carpool.
  • Outstanding campus parking violations must be settled.

Changes to Your Carpool

Carpool members must report carpool status changes immediately to Commuter Services. If your carpool loses a member, your Carpool Permit must be returned (even while you are forming a new carpool). Using a carpool permit after the carpool members have changed may result in fines and/or disciplinary action.

Carpool Permits are valid during special events, but you may be required to park in a different location the day of the event.

Occasional Carpool Parking

Two or more faculty or staff members, or one faculty/staff member and two students, may form occasional carpools anytime. Purchase a daily U-PASS carpool permit from any gatehouse by presenting each carpool member’s Husky Card™ to the Traffic Guide. Each carpooler's card must have a valid U-PASS sticker and money on each Husky Card™ Account. Each person is charged an equal portion of the $1.02 per carpool fee. No cash payments are accepted.

Parking for occasional carpools is available on upper campus at:

If you work in the UWMC or Health Sciences Building, occasional carpool parking is available in lots E10 and E12 (enter at Gate 8 ) .

Montlake E1 lot carpools enter at the south end of the lot and pay by Husky Card Account debit. Each carpool member must have money in a Husky Card Account (make deposits at least 24-hrs. to ensure a positive balance) and a valid U-PASS. Students, faculty and staff are all eligible to park in E1 individually or as a carpool.

Occasional carpool permits are not issued during some special event s such as Husky games.
