Childcare

UNDERSTAND

The University of Washington recognizes that offering childcare is an important benefit to our employees and students with children. UW Human Resources’ Benefits & Work/Life can advise you about UW childcare options and resources in the local community.

University of Washington On-Site Childcare

The University of Washington has four on-site childcare centers:

Caregiver Directory

If you need an occasional babysitter for your child, or if you are seeking employment as a caregiver, the Caregiver Directory, provides access to a prospective employers or caregivers who are interested in part-time, paid care giving work, or in employing part-time caregivers. This is available only to the UW community.

Nanny Share Network

The Nanny Share Network, coordinated by UW Benefits & Work/Life, is an informal network of University families wishing to hire or share nannies. Although we do not have a list of nannies to refer, we offer suggestions on how to find a nanny, sample interview questions, and contract guidelines. You can access the database with a UW NetID or student ID number.

Sick Child Care

If your child is mildly ill and between one and 12 years old, you have access to sick child care through Tender Loving Care at Virginia Mason Medical Center. The University underwrites the entire daily fee for UW benefits-eligible employees working .50 FTE or more and for academic student employees. Eligible families pay only a one-time registration fee of $5 per child.

Child Care Resources

The University of Washington partners with the local non-profit Child Care Resources (CCR) to provide free childcare referral services for UW faculty, staff and students.
